not even ....
in Today's society... evangelism got it harder.. why? because people are stopped even in the earliest stage of evangelism. By what? by their own feeling and assumptions.
People have a great needs for acceptance and self worth. In the world today, they measure self worth by acceptance, by how many friends they've got, how many guys/girls thinks that they are smart/good looking/rich they are. Its just how the world works.
Yesterday, i went to a dinner with my friends, it's a farewell dinner for this guy who is going back to indo. Throughout the whole evening he and his friends was talking about girls, who's the prittiest, who's the most eligible for them go chase after, etc2 normal guys talk. But is it?
It's the same with girls when they talk about guys- their money, face, body etc. Is this supposed to be a normal talk?
Think about the implication for a bit. When guys/girls talk about these kinds of stuff... what happen to those who are NOT rich/handsome/sexy/etc... of course they want to be one of those.. considering now they know that those things could give them a feeling of self worth... considering when they heard themselves that those things could make people talk about them and maybe "like" them, considering that those things could make them be more acceptable than what they already are.
Now think about this, what should a person who wanted to be a witness to God's word do? Knowing that what these people are doing is wrong. Knowing that if they are to follow these people's way of thinking, they would someday think exactly like them. Knowing that if they do follow these people, the weaker brother/sister who see it will not be encouraged at all. Knowing that what they do may give a wrong impression to the Word itself.
But, even that is hard for the witness him/herself, because she/he is a HUMAN, and he/she also longs (in some way) for self acceptance. If he/she is rejected in the first phase because he/she is a humble looking person.
That is when our faith is truly tested isn't it. When society rejects, can we fully put our trust in God. When society says that beauty is all that matter, can we truly hold on to the knowledge that beauty is something that God sees in us and gave us. That beauty is not something that we own, but beauty is something that God gives each and everyone of us FREELY.
So, there's 2 ways in going about this:
1. follow our own understanding on how to share the message
2. follow God's will and plan and fully trust that He will work in them, regardless of what they say in the present, but keep on praying and be hopeful and faithful so that one day they may see the true meaning of God's grace
And what can we as a Christian do? We can stop judging people on how they look and stop acting indifferent to those who loooks weird/ugly/unstylish. There's so many other better things to talk about than looks/other people's worth. Who are we to judge a person's worth!
Be careful little mouth what you say, because it may bring about your destruction in the future.
Because it's a small things that gives yourselves away.
