God is love???????!!!! (when do we need them?)
A question came up in my mind after hearing the song "Orphans of God" by Avalon. The chous said
"There are no strangers
There are no outcasts
There are no orphans of God
So many fallen, but hallelujah
There are no orphans of God"
I was thinking... what does this truly means? Does it mean that even when so many has fallen - they would not be neglected by God? At the end God will accepts them?
Then another song pops into my mind - "People need the Lord" by Steve Green it says:
"Everyday they pass me by,
I can see it in their eyes.
Empty people filled with care,
Headed who knows where?
On they go through private pain,
Living fear to fear.
Laughter hides their silent cries,
Only Jesus hears.
People need the Lord, people need the Lord.
At the end of broken dreams, He's the open door.
People need the Lord, people need the Lord.
When will we realize, people need the Lord?"
Again in this popular song i realized one thing - do they only need the Lord because they are empty, living in fear and no one to listen to their troubles?
I might be taking this too far but is it?
As you might know through my previous posts - i am currently thinking about the Wrath of God and it's implication in my Christian walk with the Lord.
A good preacher once said "The one that we need to be saved from is God and for God - for there is nothing lesser than God that could punish us and nothing lesser than God that could save us" (something like that). Althought this seems hars and it might give God a "bad name" but it's TRUE. There is nothing else which we need to be saved from other that God's wrath and nothing else which we could be saved from apart from God. IT may seems unfair to God or silly of God to be such a undecided God - but GLORY BE TO HIM FOR WHO HE IS!
Many people had fallen through the trap that when we think that God is loving - He could not be judging at the same time. But WHO ARE WE TO DECIDE GOD'S CHARACTER FOR HIM?! Remember Job when he said "The Lord gives and the Lord takes away - may the name of the LORD be praised". Do we really think that? and accepts it by heart? Then we must accept His divine judement and punishment for us sinners!
So why did the Lord saved us? The songs above said:
- God is loving - hence there will be no orphans of God
- people need the Lord because they are lonely, living in fear, empty, etc2
Is that it? Is that truly it? Because we are lonely, empty, fearful, always falling?
The song Amazing Grace by John Newton puts it rightly when he said:
"Amazing graceHow sweet the soundThat saved a WRETCHLike me"
Why do we need to be saved? BECAUSE WE ARE A WRETCHED CHILD! We DESERVE His punishment and judgement! We deserve to die in hell! And if God is who He says He is - He can never forgive one such us as us - because we are sinful and we are wretched and we are totally depraved!!
When one hides the fact about Hell and the divine judgement and our depravity - one takes away half of the truth in the Bible. One takes away the full meaning of grace. One takes away the full beauty and majesty of the LORD.
Please friend - consider this. Consider it based on the Bible not on what i said.. please do consider it. And I'd like to share with you a wonderful promise that God has given us through the prophet of Jeremiah 32:
36 "You are saying about this city, 'By the sword, famine and plague it will be handed over to the king of Babylon'; but this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 37 I will surely gather them from all the lands where I banish them in my furious anger and great wrath; I will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety. 38 They will be my people, and I will be their God. 39 I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me for their own good and the good of their children after them. 40 I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me. 41 I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul.
42 "This is what the LORD says: As I have brought all this great calamity on this people, so I will give them all the prosperity I have promised them. 43 Once more fields will be bought in this land of which you say, 'It is a desolate waste, without men or animals, for it has been handed over to the Babylonians.' 44 Fields will be bought for silver, and deeds will be signed, sealed and witnessed in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem, in the towns of Judah and in the towns of the hill country, of the western foothills and of the Negev, because I will restore their fortunes, [d] declares the LORD."

Especially after hearing John Piper's message on the insufficiency of hell. It opens up my mind to the fact that sometimes - ppl do need to hear the message of forgiveness and love more than punishment. And that is where the message of hell and judgement is truly insufficient.
but i guess - it's good also to think of another side of love and forgiveness. We should always see things as a whole rather than focusing on one thing and one thing only...
